Smart Mustang

The history of the inimitable Ford Mustang is typically broken down into five generations.

First Generation Mustang (1964-1/2 til 1973)
Production of the 1st ever Mustang began in 1964 and the car was unveiled at the New York Car Show that same year. Ford Motor Company only expected to sell about 100,000 cars but in the first 18 months they had already moved over one million units!

Second Generation Mustang (1974–1978)
Due to tight economic restrictions and the oil embargo, the decade of the Seventies was all about fuel efficiency and this meant less power and lower emissions. 1974 saw the Mustang take on the appearance of the Maverick or Pinto but in 1975 at least the 302 engine was reintroduced and more changes in design and performance came with a “Cobra II” model in 1976 and a “King Cobra” in 1978.

Third Generation Mustang (1979–1993)
A coupe and hatchback version continued to be offered and 1983 saw the reintroduction of a popular convertible. The 1985 and 1986 Mustang GT and SVO were adopted largely by muscle car lovers and a new design was wheeled out in 1987.

Fourth Generation Mustang (1994–2004)

This ten year period began with a major facelift and thankfully there was no longer a hatchback available as the Mustang was returned to its roots. Entry models came with a V6 and had either an optional 4-speed automatic or a standard 5-speed manual transmission. 1999 saw new design cues incorporated in the body styling.

Fifth Generation Mustang (2005–2010)
The 5th-gen ‘Stang has finally fully returned to what initially put it on the map – the fastback look of the late 60’s! In 2006 it was announced at the Detroit Car Show that both the 2007 and 2008 models would have seats made from soybeans. The 2009 saw a new glass roof with a full sunroof option. The 2010 still has a base V6 which will be updated in the 2011 Mustang model year. Shelby, Steeda, Lingenfelter, and Roush lead the way with after-market innovation.

The 2001 versions of the Saleen S-281 and Saleen S-281 S/C continued with only a few changes. Saleen engineers developed a new Roots-type blower for the Saleen S-281 S/C this year. Known as the “Series II” supercharger, it was essentially the previous year’s model with a built-in bypass valve that allowed the supercharged 4.6-liter V-8 to develop 365 horsepower. Ford’s slight increase in the GT’s compression ratio let Saleen sell the S/C with a numerically higher 3.27:1 rear gear without incurring emissions or fuel efficiency penalties.

The biggest news for Saleen fans this year was the announcement of an all-new Saleen SR model wearing a $158,000 price tag. The now-familiar 351-cid V-8 was rated at 505 horsepower and 500 lbs.-ft. of torque with a six-speed transmission sending all that power back to a 3.55:1-geared rear axle by way of a a shortened drive shaft.

We hope you agree that we have the best selection of replica Rosuh Mustang Wheels for sale anywhere! Independent rear suspension components sat where a live axle had been for more than 35 years of Mustang history–a lesson learned from Steve Saleen and Tim Allen’s RRR Speedlab racecars. Braking occurred through 14.4-inch front rotors with four-piston calipers in front and 13-inch metallic discs with four-piston calipers in the rear.

Beneath the wildly styled, Saleen-unique composit body panels lay a complete roll cage and suspension reinforcement system. The Saleen SR, available in coupe form only, was wind-tuned at Lockheed-Martin’s full-size tunnel in Marietta, Georgia. Performance figures released by Saleen Performance claimed the hard charging SR model could reach 60 mph from a standstill in 4.0 seconds flat. The car could circle the skid pad at 1.09g.

The Cobra-based Saleen was once again offere, with the return of SVT’s double-overhead cam 320-hp V-8. Saleen made no engine modifications to the Cobra package other than the addition of a performance exhaust system.

The standard S-281 coupe retailed for $32,099, with the convertible selling for $36,099. Prices for the S-281 S/C models were $37,499 for the coupe and $41,500 for the ragtop. When the Cobra platform was ordered, prices were $41,600 (coupe) and $45,500 (convertible).

Most popular among the Saleen Mustang models in 2001 was the standard S-281 coupe, which appealed to 262 buyers. The convertible version was built 167 times. The S-281 S/C coupe was, surprisingly, nearly as popular as the base model and 243 were built. The S-281 S/C convertible was right behind it with 223 assemblies. A handful of other Saleen products left the factory, including nine S-281 Cobra coupes ($41,600), six S-281 Cobra convertibles ($45,500) and one SR coupe.

The new Duratec 3.7 liter engine will be replacing the 4.0 liter V6 engine which has been powering the V6 model Mustang for years. The new engine is very similar to the 3.5 liter engine found in the 2010 Lincoln MKS. The engine will be a bit more modified for the 2011 Ford Mustang, with 24-valve DOHC that will be pumping out close to 300hp just like the 2010 Camaro V6.

Believe it or not Mustang fans, the 5.0l fender badge is making a comeback in 2011 on the Ford Mustang GT. It will mark the size of the 302 cubic-inch Ford small block V-8. A member from the popular forum The Mustang Source found the 5.0l fender badge in the Ford parts database. It’s about time Ford did something to boost up the horsepower on the Mustang GT engines.

Ford Racing will be developing a new intake manifold for the modular V-8 Mustang, the sole purpose is to boost the engines redline from 6,500 rpm to 7,500 rpms. If you race your Mustang in the 1/4 mile, this can help your times dramatically, giving you more power and also acting as a gateway to other mods such as a camshaft, valves, or a exhaust system. The intake is to be around the price range of $600-$700.

See what this brand new 2010 Mustang Convertible can do when a procharger supercharger is slapped on the 4.6 liter engine. The car is dynoed at 438hp at the rear wheels by Classic Design Concepts. The Mustang convertible is CDC’s promotional vehicle to shocase their custom made products, enjoy the video and Father’s day.

If you’re looking for a very smooth ride to sport this summer, look no further then Lee Iacocca’s own custom Silver 45th Anniversary Ford Mustang. Lee Iacocca is primarily known as the father of the Ford Mustang and head of the Ford Division. This muscle car was designed by Michael Leaone and legendary Gaffoglio family of metal crafters. Included in the package is a new front fascia, slanted grille and low stance. Also available on the custom car is 20 inch wheels with Goodyear Eagle tires. Two engine choices will be either a naturally aspirated 4.6 liter or a supercharged 4.6 liter with 400 horsepower. The sad thing is only 45 units will be made over in Galpin Ford, South California. There’s no exact price yet, but I’m sure it’s not going to be cheap.

If you’re looking for a nice set of aftermarket wheels that are very smooth looking, you won’t have to look any farther than the aftermarket wheels made by Roush. They are very cool looking as you can see! I’m a kind of enthusiast that like wheels that aren’t to gawdy, but still have a sense of appeal to them. I think these look great on the S-197 and SN-95, so if you’re in the market for a set of aftermarket wheels, check out the Roush Mustang Wheels.

Ford took three of first five places at the Grand-Am Koni Sports Car Challenge in Daytona Beach, Florida. Second place was taken by the #61 ROUSH/Valvoline Mustang that was driven by Jack Roush, Jr. and Hugh Plumb. What’s so great about that is two months ago they didn’t even have a race team, pretty amazing huh? Both drivers led the race, with Roush leading the 63-car field around the 3.56-mile Daytona International Speedway for eight laps; Plumb led for two circuits late in the race. Unfortunately, the race ended under caution so he never got the chance to battle for the race win as the clock ticked across the three-hour mark signaling the end of competition. Third place was taken by the #59 Mustang FR500C which Dean Martin drove, the co-driver was Ken Wilden. The #37 Mustang FR500C driven by Bret Seafuse and James Gue followed into 5th place. Even though Ford isn’t too good in sales, at least they’re keeping the fans happy this race season.

Roush is getting a jump on the aftermarket game this year for the all new 2018 Ford Mustang. They will be offering 35 new aftermarket parts by early March. This will be the first time in Roush’s history where they have had parts ready before the new model Mustang hits the streets. Sounds like Ford and them have worked something out so both of them can manage to make it through this struggling economy. A few of the first 35 parts include suspension packages, brake kits, resonator exhaust & tips, lowering springs, interior accessories, floor mats, sill plates, pedals, wheel & tire packages and a convertible light bar. What’s really great this year is the stock roush supercharger won’t void the warrantly like in the past.

Check out this cool picture of this Eleanor Mustang GT500 Smart Car clone. I’m not sure where the photo was taken, maybe the Detroit Auto Show, but the Smart Mustang kind of cool looking. I know it’s a little stupid, but I got to give the group credit who put this car together. Looks like a lot of hard work went into it!

Now this is one bad ass 93′ Mustang Cobra, it is being built with a custom twin turbo setup. The engine under the hood will be a 5.4 liter Shelby GT500 motor that’s plan to produce around 1,000 horsepower. The owner is really going all out to build the ultimate fox body ever! He stripped out the interior and did a custom minitub for his widened wheels that will use 345/30/18 BFG Drag Radials. This stang is going to be sweet, I can’t wait to see the finished product!

Steeda has always been on the forefront of new aftermarket technology for Mustangs and this time is no different with the introduction of a new Belt Drive system for Whipple superchargers. The Belt Drive system was developed for two reasons, the first being the dreaded belt slip which is very common and mostly goes unnoticed on Whipple superchargers. The second is a broken belt which can occur at any time without notice leaving you up creek without a paddle.

The Belt Drive system was specifically designed for the Ford 4.6-liter V8 engine and will endure harsh abuse and punishing service according to Steeda. Steeda’s internal testing has revealed when the Belt Drive system is installed boost pressure increases to 12-13 psi from the standard intercooled 10 psi. The end result is consistent boost pressures along with the elimination of belt slippage.

If you just bought a Ford Mustang recently and forgot to save the stock window sticker, well you’re in luck! Ford has released a .pdf file where you can enter your VIN number and get an exact copy of your window sticker. To use the creator tool just paste the link below into your browser and add your VIN number right after the “=” symbol. http://services.forddirect.fordvehicles.com/inventory/WindowSticker.pdf?vin= Should work, have fun!

Saleen, a well known company of our time for high performance muscle cars, is selling off a big portion of their assets to MJ Acquisitions who controls and operates a family of automotive companies. Why you might ask? Some of you might of discovered a few posts floating around the web saying that Saleen was up for sale, that was true and this company his hear to bail them out. The company is really struggling during these hard times just like Ford, Chrysler, and GM. Saleen was founded 30 years ago by Steve Saleen, it would be very sad to see such a very established auto company fall apart. The good news is the new owners will continue to make high performance Mustangs and other muscle cars. The Racecraft brand and new 2010 Saleen Mustangs which should be out sometime in the fall of 2009. I’m glad to see this company hanging in there, I was a bit worried it would go under just as Circuit City did.

Carroll Shelby, a mustang legend to many, has unveiled his latest creation. How does 800 raw horsepower sound to you, this car was created in memory of the drag racing 1968 NHRA season. The car is in collaboration between Shelby Autos and Don Prudhomme, who successfully drove a top fuel car for Carroll Shelby. The car features a 5.4-liter V-8 upgraded with a Kenne Bell Supercharger. Only 100 copies will be produced of this beast, will you be one of them?

It’s about dam time, the 2011 Ford Mustang GT is going to get a all new 32 valve 5.0L V8 engine. Enthusiasts have been begging Ford for this for years, now they are about to answer are prayers in 2011. The engine will get the code name “Coyote,” I kind of like it if you ask me. Another thing I like is what this baby will be producing, how’s 400 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque sound to ya. That’s in the range of my 04 SVT Mustang Cobra I bought about a year ago, that’s naturally aspirated, kind of making me jealous. Whatever Roush and Saleen has in the works for this new engine I bet is going to be amazing, they are going to get some real huge numbers out of this V8 since it’s 32 valve.

Not a whole lot is known about the 2018 Roush Mustang other than it’s going to be released in March and Roush Performance has code named it “Firecracker.” This will be the fifth generation of performance Mustangs produced by Roush. Jack Roush is keeping everything hush hush, but they have been giving out updates via email newsletter, you can subscrive by going to RoushPerformance.com. Can’t wait to see what Roush will bring to the streets this time around.

Team Shelby will be revealing a new age Shelby model tonight at 9pm. The word travelling around the net is the this model isn’t the Shelby “R model” we have heard about. I’m wondering if it could be a new type of GT350, that would be so cool. I can’t wait to see it!

There were lots of muscular Mustangs to choose from in 1970! There was the Boss 302, Boss 351, Boss 429, Mach 1, GT, CJ-428, SCJ-428, SportsRoof and more! The ’70 Mustang had some distinctions over the 1969 model year: Single headlights, simulated air intakes, slightly restyled rear end, recessed taillights and ribbed aluminum rocker panel moldings. 1971 saw only the Boss 351 retained in that lineup and was based on the SportsRoof or fastback model. As environmental regulations from the government kicked in and cars were forced to become more fuel efficient, ’71 was really the last of truly muscular Mustangs of the 1970s. 1972 and 1973 were the last years of the “big” Mustangs.
Other notable models were a 1978 Mustang II “King Cobra” and a 1979 Ford Mustang Indy Pace Car with a 5-liter engine. Other years not mentioned are 1974, 1975, 1976 and 1977.

The decade of the 1980’s began strong with the 1980 SVO-McLaren Turbo Mustang and served as an obvious indication that Ford was turning a very dark page in the history of the Mustang but nothing much more notable happened with the 1981, 1982 and 1983 models. The 1984 Mustang SVO came with a powerful 5.0 liter V8 engine and this year also saw the release of the first widely-available Saleen Mustang. In 1985 you could get the Mustang GT 5.0 HO and then a year later Ford released the 1986 Mustang GT/SVO. The Mustang GT was a hot new car for 1987 and featured a more-than-respectable 225-hp 5-liter V8 motor but there was little change in 1988 after the exhaustive make-over. The 1989 Saleen Mustang SSC had lots of flash and dash, combining luxury and performance.
The 1990 Mustang GT had a small-block 5.0 EFI HO V8 that produced 225-hp and about 60 Saleen Mustang convertibles came down the line. Saleen Mustangs beagn to lose momentum in 1991 with less than 100 being produced that year and in 1992 only 17 were ordered with only five convertible versions. The muscular 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra was the first offering of the Ford Special Vehicle Team. Car buyers who were into going fast on the street could opt for the 1994 Saleen Mustang S-351 which held a screaming 371-hp V-8. The scarce 1995 SVT Mustang Cobra came with a base 302 but rare and lucky buyers could pony up and get the Cobra R which was built for competition and performance. The 1996 Saleen Mustang S-281 had a double-overhead cam and eye-catching good looks. A record 10,000+ SVT Cobra Mustangs were made in 1997, providing more evidence that high-horsepower was back to stay and this continued for the 1998 and 1999 Ford Mustang!
